Lee’s Ferry Invasive Plant Project: march 27, 2010
Overview
Come help remove invasive plants at Lee’s Ferry! Lee’s Ferry is one of only a few places on the Colorado River where one can drive right up to the river. A natural corridor between Utah and Arizona, Lee's Ferry figured prominently in the exploration and settlement of northern Arizona. Lee's Ferry is now a meeting of the old and the new. Currently, the area is co-managed between Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Grand Canyon National Park.
During this trip you will help park staff manage Sahara mustard (Brassica tournefourtii) within Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Other projects may include the removal of tamarisk or Russian olive. You will be using hand tools to extract plants from the ground. We will work for 8 hours with a one hour break for lunch.
You will work with Grand Canyon National Park staff for one day on this project. Park staff will provide the leadership, tools, training, and safety overview for the duration of the project. A fee waiver and free camping will be provided. Lunches and snacks will also be provided. Breakfasts and dinners are on your own.
